ever had a bad hair day?

i love the song "somewhere over the rainbow" especially the version by eva cassidy.

as i listen to the beautiful melody and lyric, I am transported to an "idyllic world" where there are no problems, no disappointments, no frustration, no heart-ache, no bad hair days.

i'll never forget the first time i watched the "wizard of oz".  i was terrified by the flying monkeys, wicked witch, field of poppies and even the wizard.

as a child i questioned, where was this idyllic land "somewhere over the rainbow?"  all i could see were insurmountable problems around every corner.
"somewhere over the rainbow"
there are days that life feels idyllic - especially when you escape on a dream vacation.  there are other days that life is harsh - the flying monkeys scare us - the witch invades our dreams - our heart is broken - we realize that we are frail.

in psalm 32 david states - "my vitality was turned into the drought of summer".
"frail"

in my words i say - my youth has faded, my beauty is gone, my problems are insurmountable, i am having a bad hair day.

on those days when i am feeling vulnerable, i am reminded of the rest of psalm 32.

"You are my hiding place;
You shall preserve me from trouble:
You shall surround me with songs of deliverance"
"beauty"
        "he who trusts in the LORD, mercy shall surround him."

today i choose to trust in the LORD
