no such thing as random

one of the processes i use when creating art  - specifically art journaling and street art, is the employment of the use of marks, or mark making.  isolated, these marks look random and out of place.  but, in the larger context of the work of art, these marks are important and necessary.  the marks, in and of themselves, transport the art piece from the ordinary and elevate it to something special.

during our life's journey, we have many acquaintances - they are a part of our everyday lives.  during different seasons of life, we unfortunately also have enemies who use deception and seemingly hunt us down to destroy us.  but, most importantly during our journey, we experience close friends.  their friendship is a significant and necessary ingredient  to our very existence.

in "the four loves", C.S. Lewis eloquently explains how i feel about my close friends and the intersect that brought us together.

"In friendship. . .we think we have chosen our peers.  In reality a few years' difference in the dates of our births, a few more miles between certain houses, the choice of one university instead of another. . .the accident of a topic being raised or not raised at first meeting- -any of these chances might have kept us apart.  But, for a Christian, there are, strictly speaking no chances.  (I feel God puts together all great friendships - my insert) A secret master of ceremonies has been at work.  Christ, who said to the disciples, "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you," can truly say to every group of Christian friends, "Ye have not chosen one another but I have chosen you for one another."  The friendship is not a reward for our discriminating and good taste in finding one another out.  It is the instrument by which God reveals to each of us the beauties of others."

your close friendships, like the marks on a painting, are not random but ordained.
